$50M Surf Park with Wave Pool Proposed for Alameda
Surfing in Alameda? A new proposal aims to make that a reality. Thanks to much to KTVU and WavePoolMag for sharing the news a $50 million surf park is being proposed for Alameda’s west end.
A new $50 million proposal could bring a wave pool and year-round surfing to the West End of Alameda, right near the USS Hornet. The project — dubbed the Neptune Beach Surf Club — would transform a long-vacant Navy site into a public-facing surf and recreation destination.
The site at West Hornet Avenue and Skyhawk Street, once part of the former Alameda Naval Air Station, has seen better days (though it did appear in Star Trek, Matrix Reloaded, and MythBusters). If approved, the lot would be reimagined with Endless Surf wave pool tech, surfboard rentals, and beach access — all just steps from the bay with views of the San Francisco skyline.
But it’s not just for surfers. The plans also include:
- A canoe and sailing center
- A shoreline trail
- A bike pump track
- Camping + glamping zones
- Food & drink vendors
- Renovated Navy rec center with public restrooms and a new community room
