A “Bacon Bacon” Reality TV Battle
You may have heard of (or better yet, smelled) Bacon Bacon cooking up their bacon-inspired dishes around the city in their food trucks. Thanks to SFist for tipping us off they they went on a reality TV show to try to pitch their porky expansion plans to potential investors.
Bacon Bacon as a Startup Startup?
The men behind Bacon Bacon, Jim Angelus and Conor Wiecking, were featured on the CNBC show Restaurant Startup on July 15, 2014 – a reality TV-show where contestants pitch their restaurants to investors for a hefty lump of cash. Angelus and Wiecking sought $400,000 to expand to L.A., however they lost to a competing team of scantily clad burger babes.
Unfortunately, the investors on the show were not impressed with Bacon Bacon’s pitch. Why? Because they were buying pre-sliced and pre-smoked bacon instead of preparing it themselves. The investors even chided them that their concept is for “hipsters and losers.”
Hold it right there… Yes, buying pre-sliced bacon is pretty lame but bacon is totally not for losers and certainly not restricted to hipsters. Well maybe it is, but we don’t care.
Our bacon buddies may have lost the competition, but they’ll still be serving up tasty coma-inducing bacon burgers right here in SF and we’re happy to have them all to ourselves… LA can wait.
More SF Eateries on Restaurant Startup
But SF hasn’t thrown the towel just yet, we still got another chance. Other S.F. eateries featured on Restaurant Startup later in the season will Bepoke Doughnuts, The Whole Beast, and Sugar Knife.Perhaps those businesses will get a shot to win investment money.
If not, we hope that they can collaborate together with Bacon Bacon to create bacon donut chicken lollipops.
