Most Bay Area Holiday Ice Rinks Won’t Be Opening This Year
Sadly, it looks like most of the Bay Area’s outdoor ice skating rinks that typically pop up for the holidays won’t be opening this year.
Many of the Bays seasonal ice rinks recently announced they won’t be opening due to the ongoing pandemic. Operators have noted that everyone’s health and safety are paramount. Plus, the social distancing requirements and reduced capacities would make their businesses unprofitable.
Thanks to ABC7 for reporting that the following ice rinks are not opening in 2020:
- Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center
- Norcal Ice in San Rafael
- Union Square Ice Rink
- San Jose’s Downtown Ice
- Santa Clara on Ice
- San Mateo on Ice Holiday Skating Rink
- Napa on Ice
- NorCal Ice (Marin)
- Walnut Creek on Ice
- Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk – Update – Canceled for 2020-21
However, we did find two outdoor ice rinks that’ll be open this year.
If you’re up for a mini road trip UPDATE – As of11/6/20 We’ve been told by the Beach Boardwalk team that the ice rink is canceled for 2020-21,
Santa Cruz’s Boardwalk Holiday Ice Skating Rink will be open this year, November 14, 2020 – January 3, 2021.Also if you head to the far East Bay, Brentwood on Ice returns November 20.
