Berkeley’s Brand New “Brickyard Cove” Waterfront Park
Berkeley has a brand new waterfront park that offers sweeping views of the Bay.
Brickyard Cove at McLaughlin Eastshore State Park is now open with new parking, bike racks, picnic tables, restrooms, water fountains, interpretive signage, walking paths, and bike connection to the San Francisco Bay Trail. Brickyard Cove provides magnificent views of the entire San Francisco Bay and skyline. Public access at Brickyard Cove is the result of a decade-long community effort by residents and public agencies to protect the Bay shoreline from development and reclaim it for public use.
Over the years, the Brickyard site had become a community eyesore as a 53-foot-high dirt pile built up from excavated dirt and debris from projects throughout the region. Today the dirt pile is gone, having been lowered by 15 feet through re-grading and removal of debris. The once-blighted site has been transformed in a recreational amenity for the public to enjoy with enhanced natural habitat and stunning views of the San Francisco Bay and skyline.
Brickyard Cove is one of many recent investments at McLaughlin Eastshore State Park over the past few years, including public access improvements at Albany Beach, trail improvements along the Albany Neck, and a 1-mile Bay Trail extension behind Golden Gate Fields. McLaughlin Eastshore State Park extends 8.5 miles along the bay shoreline from the Bay Bridge to Richmond and includes 1,833 acres of upland and tideland habitat.
The Brickyard Cove, an extension of McLaughlin Eastshore State Park, is located just south of University Avenue along Interstate 80, near the Berkeley Marina.
