Kicking off on Sunday, January 15th, Dine About Town 2012 returns with another chance for frugal foodies to eat their way through 108 of San Francisco’s best restaurants.

Is $34.95 “Cheap?” Yes, we know that $35 may seem a bit spendy since  Funcheap normally is writing about $2 tacos, but there are some great restaurants that you’d rarely get a chance to try if you’re on a budget, so we thought we’d highlight our favorites.

Foreign Cinema

Nestled in the heart of the Mission and recognizable only by it’s humble entrance, Foreign Cinema is indisputably one of San Francisco’s best restaurants. Showcasing independent and classic films along the wall of their outdoor patio and serving up a mouthwatering rotating menu, this California cuisine never disappoints.

Partnering Southern inspiration with a French sensibility, this pseudo-supper club is always innovative and always delicious. Linger in the lounge on Fridays for live music or arrive early on weeknights for $3 drafts and $5 wells and wines. Then make your way into the exquisite dining room to for an elegant down home meal.

Waterbar

Spiff yourself up, then sink your teeth into some seafood at the luxurious Waterbar placed along the picturesque Embarcadero. With a broad outdoor patio lining the waterfront and oysters to die for ($1 oysters till 6pm every day), this is the ideal spot to take that special someone. And with their a la cart menu starting off in the double digits for appetizers, you know you’ll be getting a deal.

Sutro’s at the Cliff House

Perched atop the jagged rocks and breaking waves along the coastline, the historic Cliff House has long been known as a San Francisco splurge. With broad floor to ceiling windows and a minimal design, Sutro’s woos diners with it’s ocean views and fish-friendly menu. Just be sure to make your reservations before sunset to take advantage of the views.

One Market Restaurant
