Bay Area food lovers will soon have another destination for Japanese ingredients and ready-to-eat meals. Hashi Japanese Market, a New York-based supermarket, is set to open its first West Coast location in Cupertino in May or June 2025. The market will take over the former Sprouts Farmers Market location at 20558 Stevens Creek Blvd., offering a range of Japanese groceries, snacks, and fresh-made food options.

What to Expect at Hashi Market

Hashi Market is more than a typical grocery store. In addition to selling fresh produce, seafood, and pantry staples, the market will offer a selection of imported Japanese snacks, including a variety of Kit-Kat flavors and Pocky sticks. Customers can also find freshly prepared bento boxes with options like teriyaki chicken, grilled fish, and tempura, as well as sushi rolls and sashimi made daily. The store will also feature a home goods section and provide catering services for those looking to bring authentic Japanese flavors to events and gatherings.

Growth of Asian Markets in the Bay Area

The opening of Hashi Market is part of a larger wave of new Asian supermarkets coming to the region. Other anticipated openings include:

  • Jagalchi (Daly City) – A 75,000-square-foot Korean market with a restaurant, bakery, and seafood section, opening March 28, 2025
  • T&T Supermarket (San Jose) – A popular Canadian grocery chain making its U.S. debut at Westgate Center in fall 2025.
  • Tokyo Central (Emeryville) – A Japanese grocery store and restaurant opening in fall 2025.
  • Mega Mart (Dublin) – A Korean market replacing a former Lucky’s supermarket, opening March 28, 2025.
  • H Mart (Dublin) – Another highly anticipated Korean supermarket coming to the East Bay, with an official opening date yet to be announced.

Location and Future Expansion

Hashi Market’s Cupertino location places it at a busy intersection near South De Anza Boulevard, less than a mile from another Japanese grocery store, Tokyo Central. The company, owned by Takayama International Inc., has plans to expand further in California, with potential locations near San Jose and Irvine in Southern California.

With a growing demand for international grocery options in the Bay Area, the arrival of Hashi Market will provide another destination for those looking to explore Japanese cuisine or find specialty ingredients. The exact opening date has yet to be confirmed, but the store is expected to begin welcoming customers sometime in 2025.
