Thank you Datebook for letting us know about Castro Theatre’s boarded-up box office which has been painted to show appreciation to frontline workers during the pandemic.

Award-winning Bay Area artist Mace did a fantastic job with Castro Theatre’s box office murals with coordination from @MissionArt415. He painted images representing gratitude to all the grocery/restaurant staff, nurses/medical staff, firefighters/first responders, postal workers, and all of the other essential workers keeping the city safe.

The rainbow umbrellas represent our community protecting them from the raining virus, by sheltering in place.

Seeing the barrier transformed into a mural depicting portraits of heroes of the pandemic surely brings a little bit of brightness and hope into the neighborhood and reminds us of who is pitching in on the “front lines” no mater their socio-economic status
