Coming in 2027: SF Is Getting a New 5-Block Outdoor Art Trail
San Francisco is turning portions of Minna and Natoma streets into a colorful new public art corridor connecting Yerba Buena Gardens, SFMOMA and the Transbay Transit Center. The project will add about 800 feet of colorful artwork directly into the streets, along with sculptures, seating, bike racks and decorative bollards.
Five Bay Area artists are behind the designs. Barbara Stauffacher Solomon’s Minna Street artwork features bold graphics and red-booted legs, while Mel Vera Cruz’s designs pay homage to Filipino culture and the Filipino diaspora in SoMa and Yerba Buena. On Natoma Street, Muzae Sesay’s colorful design explores how differences in culture, identity and expression can come together.
The street furniture will be artwork, too. Masako Miki is designing seating, bike racks and bollards inspired by the sea, sun, moon and stars and Philippine mythology, while Jesse Schlesinger’s sculptures draw inspiration from San Francisco’s skyline, hills and Bay shoreline.
The artwork is expected to be installed in spring 2027, with the full streetscape project scheduled for completion that summer. The larger project also includes wider sidewalks, raised crosswalks, new pedestrian crossings, lighting, landscaping and roadway improvements.
