Thanks to KRON4 for sharing the news that San Francisco’s Fillmore Jazz Festival is officially back on for 2025—after a brief cancellation left the city stunned. Originally called off due to soaring production costs, the iconic festival is now returning over Fourth of July weekend thanks to a major financial boost from Ripple co-founder and philanthropist Chris Larsen, along with support from the nonprofit Avenue Greenlight.

As the West Coast’s largest free jazz festival, the Fillmore Jazz Festival draws more than 50,000 attendees each year. The two-day celebration spans twelve blocks of Fillmore Street—from Jackson to Eddy—with two main stages at California and Eddy Streets. It’s a high-energy weekend packed with jazz performances, local vendors, delicious food, and a strong sense of community.

This year’s event had been on the brink of cancellation, with organizers facing a budget exceeding $500,000 due to rising costs for permits, talent, security, medical services, and city-mandated procedures. The announcement of its cancellation sparked concern across the city—until Larsen, known for his role in founding the crypto company Ripple, stepped in with timely funding to bring the festival back for 2025.

While this generous support ensures the festival will take place on July 5th and 6th, organizers are still working toward a more sustainable future. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help ensure this beloved tradition continues for years to come.

For now, San Francisco can look forward to the return of one of its most cherished summer celebrations—where music, culture, and the vibrant soul of the Fillmore once again take center stage.
