Green Day Members Play Surprise Gig to Celebrate Reopened Oakland Dive Bar
The Golden Bull in Oakland held an invite-only party celebrate their reopening with a surprise set from The Coverups, a side project from Green Day members. Don’t feel bad you missed out because the party was guest list only to ensure everyone was vaccinated.
Thanks to SFGate for sharing the backstory. To celebrate the The Golden Bull’s reopening and co-owner Bill Schneider’s 50th birthday, The Coverups graced the stage on Thursday, June 17. The band features Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt, along with Schneider, who has a long history with the band, serving as a member in Pinhead Gunpowder with Armstrong, and later as Green Day’s touring manager. Billie Joe Armstrong is also a partner in the bar.
The band rocked out for 2 hours covering ’70 and ’80s pop and rock classics. Check out their rendition of Plimsouls’ 1983 hit “A Million Miles Away” in the bar’s Instagram video below.
