A 3-block stretch of Foothill Boulevard will likely don the new name

Thanks to East Bay Times for sharing the news that the legendary Oakland rapper Too $hort is likely getting a street named in his honor.

A three-block section of Foothill Boulevard in Oakland could soon don the name Too $hort Way to commemorate the “Godfather of the Bay”.

Oakland City Council will decide on December 6, 2022 if Foothill Blvd. from 47th Avenue to High Street will add the commemorative street name beneath the current street signs. This stretch of road passes Fremont High School, his alma mater, a community pool, and several murals including one of another Bay Area rap icon, the late Mac Dre.

Too $hort, born Todd Shaw, was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Oakland in the early 1980s and graduated from Fremont High.
