Join a one of a kind art exhibit in a San Francisco County Jail on Friday, May 10, 2013.

In the jail’s foyer, artist Evan Bissell will display work from What Cannot Be Taken Away: Families and Prisons Project, a critically acclaimed artistic exploration of the impact of incarceration on families.

Also on display will be an extensive collection of remarkable works culled from the Arts-in-Corrections Program at the California Institution for Women(CIW) and a variety of media from the S.F. Jail Arts program and artists-in-residence past and present.

Jail House Art Show
Friday, May 10, 2013 – 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm
San Francisco County Jail #2 | 425 7th Street, San Francisco, CA
FREE

Guests will enjoy complimentary refreshments and a short excerpt from an upcoming performance of Rising Voices, a theater ensemble of formally incarcerated young women at 4 pm.

“The exhibit will show the public an alternative art world from the jails and prisons. Men and women inmates, having no previous training, turn to art for a sense of self-worth, to grow and explore their lives, to challenge themselves and develop self-discipline, to find peace. Sometimes the results are astonishing and must be shared in a public exhibition.”
