Latest Facebook Update as of 8/21 at 6am – “Update: I just met with Cal Fire  at our zoo and again this morning. I confirmed that we are currently, distant from harms way, at this point. We’ll remain in ready mode but sincerely doubt we will need to evacuate. Thank u to all, having your contact info and availability has been a tremendous stress relief and asset to our planning. Please, continue to pray for the many who lost so much and are in threat of the same today.” – please note this update is by Charlie Sammut, President of Monterey Zoo & Vision Quest, which is difficult to find an just one of many in a thread from their original Facebook update on 8/17.

According to KSBW, the zoo, just south of Salinas is in the mandatory evacuation area, but hadn’t evactuated yet and were instead monitoring the situation and the are quality.
