Nike Women’s Marathon: Best Places to Watch

The best places to cheer & give support for Sunday’s marathon

On Sunday, October 20, 2013, over 30,000 women will race together through the streets of San Francisco for the 10th annual Nike Women’s Marathon to raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

You can cheer them on at one of several spectator-friendly vistas on the course. Check out the course map for cheer stations.

Where can family and friends cheer the runners?
The following cheer stations are optimal viewing & cheering locations for fans & supporters. If driving, please be aware of road closures on surrounding roads.

  • MILE 3.3: TNT at Bay St & Van Ness Ave. runners from 6:47AM-8:15am.
  • MILE 3.7: spectators on the southwest corner of bay st & laguna st. runners from 6:54am-8:30am. – Large crowd here with some of the best energy
  • MILE 6.8: TNT at lincoln blvd & merchant rd. runners from 7:10am-9:15am.
  • MILE 8.2: thrive mile on el camino del mar & 30th ave . runners from 7:18am-9:30am.
  • MILE 8.4: TNT on clement st & 32nd ave . runners from 7:18am-9:30am.
  • MILE 9.3-10.3: 4g mile on clement st & 36th ave . runners from 7:25am-10:02am.
  • MILE 10.5: TNT on west side of great hwy at jfk dr. runners from 7:34am-10:15am. – one of the more beautiful spots to watch
  • MILE 10.5: WFM CHEER ZONE ON great hwy at jfk dr at the entrance to golden gate park . runners from 7:34am-10:15am.
  • MILE 11.3: spectators on jfk dr in golden gate park . shuttle drops off one block north at 36th ave & fulton st. runners from 7:37am-10:15Am.
  • MILE 12.5 (half)/15.5: “feed your strength” at mlk jr dr & middle dr. runners from 7:44am-11:15Am.
  • MILE 17: tnt on great hwy & ortega st. runners from 8:15am-1:30pm.
  • MILE 18: tnt on great hwy & THE ZOO. runners from 8:21AM-1:20pm.
  • MILE 20: tnt on lake merced blvd & clearfield dr. runners from 8:30am-12:55pm.

Friends & Family Meet-Up at Finish
Once you complete the race, visit the Verizon tent & use their phones to call your friends & family. Easily find & connect with fellow runners, friends & family using the labeled alphabet sections within the meet-up area.

The course starts in Union Square, heads up the Embarcadero curving around past Fort Mason and into the Presidio. The race continues through the Outer Richmond to the beach, taking a loop of Golden Gate Park, a loop around Lake Merced, and then finishing on the Great Highway at the corner of Golden Gate Park.

Nike Women’s Marathon “Expotique”
Over the course of three days this expo showcases cutting edge Nike Running and Training technology with live demonstrations, Olympic gold-medal athlete appearances (including 1984 Olympic marathon gold medalist Joan Benoit) along with freebies and giveaways expected from companies like Whole Foods and Luna Bar | Union Square | Thu 10/17, Noon to 8pm | Fri 10/18, 10a-8p | Sat 10/19, 8a-7p | Free and open to the public.
