Oakland Museum Partially Closed Due to Damage from October’s Big Storm
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) has temporarily shut down its special exhibition hosted in the Great Hall gallery due to damage sustained from the big storm in October.
OMCA says…
“Due to extraordinary weather conditions on Sunday, October 24, OMCA experienced some water damage to our campus. Leaking occurred from the upper level of the Museum, entering the Great Hall gallery below where our special exhibition Mothership: Voyage Into Afrofuturism is on view and where our upcoming exhibition Edith Heath: A Life in Clay is being installed. There has been no damage to any of the artifacts or artworks in the galleries and no impact on visitor or staff safety.
In order to conduct repairs, Mothership: Voyage Into Afrofuturism will be closed to the public until further notice, and the anticipated opening for Edith Heath: A Life in Clay has been postponed. All ticket holders who have pre-purchased a timed ticket to either of the Special Exhibitions will be contacted for a rebooking or a refund. Please contact visitor@museumca.org if you have questions. Members may contact membership@museumca.org.
OMCA’s Galleries of California Art, History, and Natural Sciences, as well as our gardens, remain open. Our cafe, Town Fare, will operate with a streamlined menu and hours during this time, with lunch service available from 12 to 2 pm and coffee service and snacks from 2 to 5 pm.
Our team is actively working on immediate repairs to the Great Hall and we look forward to opening our special exhibitions soon and to welcoming you to our collection galleries and garden programming. We will post updates here as they are available.”
