The East Bay Center for Queer Art organized the art installation on Lakeside Park road outside The Gardens of Lake Merritt, running from Children’s Fairyland to the Lake Merritt boating center. Artists painted the letter outlines on Friday and then volunteers came Saturday to paint it all in.

Our Black Trans and Queer lives are devalued and erased. Outcries for justice are ignored.
We will not be SILENT or SMALL!
THIS #AllBlackLivesMatter art-in-action #Oakland #California mural is UNAPOLOGETICALLY BRIGHT + BIG! Bringing visibility to our call for justice. The massive mural was conceived + designed by 3 Black Trans and GNC artivists: Kin Folkz, Guerrilla Davis + Janetta Johnson (The @queerartscenter + @wearetheoneswevebeenwaitingfor + @tgijustice + Spectrum Queer Media) Janetta, Guerrilla + Kin Folkz thank the 13 QTPOC artists (including Kin + Guerrilla) who all took on the difficult task of figuring out the layout + stenciling the majority of the massive mural onto the ground.

We send deep bows of gratitude to the over 250 wonderful Queer Arts Center and WeAreTheOnes supporters + community members who came out to co-create this visible and necessary message by filling-in the stenciled letters! We also thank, @endeavors-oakland ⁣team who we brought onboard to source the materials and work alongside us on day-of coordination.
