San Francisco Outdoor Dining Guide: 290+ Patios & Restaurants

Updated Sept. 17: Huge list of SF’s open outdoor patios, sidewalk dining and rooftop bars

It took a lot of legwork and phone calls, but we’ve uncovered 296 restaurants and bars (so far) that are opening for outdoor dining.

Here’s our list. Please note we’ve done our best to get all the details correct, but hours of operation and menus may change without notice during these early days so please contact the restaurant to confirm first before heading out.

Streets Closed for Outdoor Dining

  • SF – Valencia Street – Car free and tables allowed in streets between 16th and 17th streets and 18th and 19th streets between 4 pm and 10 pm from Thursdays until Sundays.
  • SF – Chinatown – “Walkway Weekends” Enjoy a stroll down iconic Grant avenue and Commercial for outdoor dining, historic walk, and Asian shopping under vibrant red lanterns every Saturday and Sunday through Sept 20, 2020. Tables typically set up 11am to 5pm.
  • SF – Japantown – “Picnic on the Plaza” every Saturday & Sunday through September 27, 11:30 am to 8 pm
  • SF – Castro – 18th Street one block east and west of Castro street – Every Sunday 1pm to 10pm
  • SF – Hayes Valley – Hayes Street for three blocks (btwn Franklin and Laguna) plus a portion of Octavia – closed Fridays (4-10pm) and Saturdays and Sundays (10am to 10pm)
  • SF – Sunset Dist – Irving between 19th and 20th Avenues – Closed Thursday and Friday (3:30-11p) plus Saturday and Sunday (10:30am to 11pm) starting August 20th.
  • SF – SoMa – Stevensen between 6th and 7th Streets – scheduled to be closed Thursdays 4-9pm starting September 10th through December 17th.
  • SF – Lower Polk – Austin Alley (at Polk St. between Pine and Bush) This new open public space will offer food service from El Lopo, Grubstake Diner, Ben Thai, Vegan Picnic and Batter Bakery and is closed to vehicle traffic for a pedestrian-friendly and physically distanced outdoor dining experience. Seated patrons can order food and beverages from any of five participating businesses. Guests in the Plaza are also welcome to bring in takeout food from any restaurant in the neighborhood. Hours of Operation: Sun/Tues/Wed/Thurs 3-9pm; Fri/Sat 3-11pm; Closed Mondays
  • SF –  Tenderloin Golden Gate Avenue – Through December, one block of Golden Gate Avenue in the Tenderloin will be closed to vehicle traffic four days a week. Golden Gate Avenue between Larkin and Hyde streets will be closed between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., from Thursday through Sunday, every week.
  • SF – Tenderloin Larkin Street –  Beginning Thursday, September 17 and will continue through December, two blocks of Larkin Street in the Tenderloin will be closed to vehicle traffic four days a week between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., from Thursday through Sunday. Larkin Street between Eddy and Ellis streets and Larkin Street between Ellis and O’Farrell streets will be closed. The intersection of Larkin and Ellis streets will not be affected.
  • San Jose – Downtown – San Pedro St. between Santa Clara and St John is now dedicated to outdoor dining with other streets to follow

  • LakesideLucho’s – Now open for outdoor dining, a California-American cuisine infused with the flavors of the Yucatán region of Mexico. Closed on Monday and open Tuesday – Sunday 9:00 am – 02:00 pm, cooking up breakfast, brunch and lunch.
  • Mission BaySF KebabHappy Hour – Enjoy their Mediterranean Cuisine such as gyros, wraps, kebabs, hummus, tabbouleh, couscous, salads and more. Open Everyday with Outdoor Seating Available from 11am to 8pm / Happy Hour (Beer on Tap, House Wines), Monday through Friday 3pm to 5pm
  • Mission Dist.Lost Resort – Their partially covered patio and sidewalk tables are open for outdoor dining, Tues – Fri from 3pm to 10pm and Sat-Sun from 12pm to 10pm. Cocktails by Captain Brad and excellent complimentary bites from our kitchen make it a destination for all.
  • NovatoCrave – Now open for patio dining serving upscale farm to table California cuisine. Their menu is prepared with all-local ingredients and complemented by hand crafted cocktails, craft beers and California wines.Signature items include Oakwood Grilled Manila Clams and Filipino inspired Beef Short Ribs and not to be missed is their fresh local seafood offerings along with woodfire grill meats and poultry. Enjoy their $8.00 each “Side Scoobies” menu. Open Sun- Thur from 5pm – 9pm and Fri and Sat from 5pm – 10pm.
  • Potrero HillDumpling Time – Visitors can watch dumplings being made fresh right before their eyes, from the restaurant’s signature dumplings, pan-seared, well-stuffed, crispy-skinned gyoza, to steamed dumplings, traditional Chinese dumplings and noodles, Dumpling Time will delight dumpling aficionados and newbies alike. Now open for patio dining, Mon-Thur 11 am to 8:30 pm and Fri – Sun 10:30 am to 9 pm.
  • SoMaBasil Thai – They set up a few tables outdoor to bring the spirit of Bangkok to a bite, good food & strong drinks. Open for lunch Monday – Friday 11:30am-2pm and dinner 4-8:30pm.
  • SoMaMathilde French BistroHappy Hour – Taditional French Cuisine, serving dinner on our heated patio with retractable awning to keep you warm. Tuesday to Saturday, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Enjoy Live Jazz Music every Thursday from 6:30-9:30pm. / Unwind with wine, drinks and appetizer specials Thursday – Saturday from 5:30-6:30 pm.
  • SoMaRocco’s Cafe – Serving homemade Italian/American food for over 20 years their sidewalk tables for dining outdoors are available, open Wednesday-Saturday Breakfast/ lunch 10am-2pm and Dinner 4pm-8pm.
  • Union SquareONE65 Patisserie – World-class chef serves sophisticated desserts and light bites literally right on Union Square is now serving Sunday brunch from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the restaurant’s sidewalk patio. Outdoor seating is available Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Bernal HeightsBalompie Cafe – Serving up pupusas as well as typical Salvadoran dishes such as sopa de Mondongo, yucca and plantains. They also serve breakfast and handmade corn tortillas. Open for takeout and outside dining from 9am to 8pm (closed on Tuesdays.) on Mission and Richland.
  • Bernal HeightsBernal Star – Brunch, burgers and brews opening up starting June 12th for outdoor dining in patio plus sidewalk 4pm to 9pm Tuesday to Sunday.

  • CastroAnchor Oyster Bar – Same local owner since 1977 serving the Chronicle’s “favorite clam chowder” plus oysters (duh!). Two sidewalk tables.

  • CastroLark Food & Wine – Souvlaki, Kurdish meatballs, Gree chicken swekers, wraps, charcuterie and cheese boards open for outdoor dining on 18th St.
  • CastroLookout – Sidewalk drinks along 16th Street and Market
  • CastroMidnight Sun – LGBT bar on 18th Street with large outdoor dining area in the street with cocktails, beer and Oz pizza. Typically open until 9pm.
  • CastroMix Neighborhood Bar – Small gay bar spilling out onto the 18th Street sidewalk. Not sure if they are supposed to open yet, but it’s been a lively scene recently.
  • CastroOz Burger – Burgers, fries and shakes with a few outdoor tables. Probably the ugliest outdoor signage of any restaurant in SF.
  • CastroOz Pizza – Giant thin-crust slices w/ unusual flavors (figgy piggy and ostrich) plus chocolate covered bacon and beer. Four sidewalk tables
  • CastroPoesia Osteria Italiana – Very cozy neighborhood italian restaurant with back patio and front deck dining on 18th btwn Castro and Noe.
  • CastroProject Juice – Juices, paleo waffles, superfood smoothie bowls. Open for contactless delivery with two tables in front.
  • CastroQualitea – Bubble tea shop on 18th near Noe with two tables out front.
  • CastroSaucy Asian – Mashup of Korean, Mexican and California serving bowls, burritos and poke. Two tiny little tables out front
  • CastroStarbelly – Cozy comfort food with craft beer and cocktails. Reservations accepted for outdoor dining starting 6/15. Heated patio.
  • CastroTaco Boys – Two tiny little tables outside taco and burrito shop on Market next to Super Duper
