San Francisco Outdoor Dining Guide: 245+ Patios & Restaurants

It took a lot of legwork and phone calls, but we’ve uncovered 247 restaurants and bars (so far) that are opening for outdoor dining.

Here’s our list. Please note we’ve done our best to get all the details correct, but hours of operation and menus may change without notice during these early days so please contact the restaurant to confirm first before heading out.

Streets Closed for Outdoor Dining

  • SF – Valencia Street – Car free and tables allowed in streets between 16th and 17th streets and 18th and 19th streets between 4 pm and 10 pm from Thursdays until Sundays.
  • SF – Chinatown – “Walkway Weekends” Enjoy a stroll down iconic Grant avenue and Commercial for outdoor dining, historic walk, and Asian shopping under vibrant red lanterns every Saturday and Sunday through Sept 20, 2020. Tables typically set up 11am to 5pm.
  • SF – Japantown – “Picnic on the Plaza” every Saturday & Sunday through September 27, 11:30 am to 8 pm
  • San Jose – Downtown – San Pedro St. between Santa Clara and St John is now dedicated to outdoor dining with other streets to follow

  • Bernal HeightsBalompie Cafe – Serving up pupusas as well as typical Salvadoran dishes such as sopa de Mondongo, yucca and plantains. They also serve breakfast and handmade corn tortillas. Open for takeout and outside dining from 9am to 8pm (closed on Tuesdays.) on Mission and Richland.
  • CastroPoesia Osteria Italiana – Very cozy neighborhood italian restaurant with back patio and front deck dining on 18th btwn Castro and Noe.
  • Cole ValleyBeit Rima – Arabic comfort food at Carl and Cole serving up Shakshuka, Fattoush, Gazan Braised Lamb Shank and more with outdoor dining 4-8pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
  • Cole ValleyPadrecitoHappy Hour – Mexican spot at Carl and Cole with seasonal menu, House made tortillas and salsas. Outdoor dining limited to 1 1/2 hours per reservation. Open Tuesday-Friday 4PM-8:30PM, Saturday 11AM-8:30PM, Sunday 11AM-8:00PM / Happy Hour with $6 margaritas on outdoor patio, Tuesday-Friday 4-5pm during outdoor dining.
  • Fillmore Dist.Curbside Cafe – Tiny restaurant on California just east of Mollie Stone’s. A neighborhood fixture since 1978, serving a French-American breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a few outdoor bistro tables plus soon will be adding a covered parklet.
  • Inner RichmondRichmond Republic Draught House – Draught house with a great selection of beers, burgers, and amazing mac and cheese. 642 Clement St (b/t 7th and 8th Ave) Outdoor dining hours: Mon-Fri 4pm – 10pm, Sat and Sun 12pm – 10pm but please contact venue to confirm.
  • Inner RichmondUncle Boy’s – Neighborhood favorite offering burgers. 245 Balboa St (at 4th Ave). No official mention on website about outdoor dining, but readers have confirmed seeing outside tables.
  • Lower HaightNikkie’s – Lower Haight sports bar with new parklet, 10 outdoor tables, full bar and menu of burgers, wings and fried tilapia. Closed Mondays.
  • North BeachBelle Cora – Cozy beer and wine bar with covered streetside patio. Sometimes shows soccer games on two outdoor TVs
  • North BeachCaffe BaoNecci – Tuscan restaurant at 516 serving up thin crust pizzas, Eggplant Parmigiana, and Tiramisu open for outdoor dining at 5pm on Thursday and at Noon on Fri-Sat-Sun
  • North BeachCaffe Greco – Sidewalk tables with espresso drinks, Italian desserts, light bites & wine. No mention on official website of outdoor dining, but Yelp readers report it open. Cash only.
  • North BeachChubby Noodle – Chubby Favorites plus New Dishes including Pho & Ramen, Specialty Cocktails, Beer, Sake, Wine by the Bottle. Full Service Sidewalk Seating​ Daily from 11am-10pm. 570 Green St. btwn Columbus & Grant
  • North BeachGino and Carlo – Although only takeout is listed on their website and social, readers confirm a few outdoor tables serving hot dogs, pesto pasta, Italain sausages and full bar. Outdoor TV shows Giants games.
  • North BeachMaggie McGarry’s Irish Pub – Irish Bar on Grant with outdoor sidewalk parklet. Often soccer games on sidewalk facing TVs.
  • North BeachSodini’s Trattoria – Old school Italian spot open for over 100 years in the heart of North Beach on Green and Grant. Outdoor dining starts at 3pm with steaks, cannelloni, pasta and proudly serving no decaf and no desserts.
  • North BeachTupelo’s – Grant Ave. bar with 7 outdoor tables first come first served with full bar and Southern soul food. Gets busy on weekends with live music (yes, even during COVID era they have bands).
  • Outer RichmondLokma – Turkish and Meditteranean at 1801 Clement St (at 19th Ave) with outdoor dining. Brunch: Fri, Sat, Sun 10am – 3pm, Dinner Mon-Sun 4pm – 9pm
  • SoMaSushi Hashiri – Dine under a 7-foot plastic dome “igloo” on Mint Plaza at Michelin-starred sushi spot & one of SF’s most expensive restaurants. Two seatings, 5pm and 7:30pm with $200 per person 5-course Kaiseki & Omakase Edomae Sushi dining experience. Open Wednesday through Saturday

  • CastroMix Neighborhood Bar – Small gay bar spilling out onto the 18th Street sidewalk. Not sure if they are supposed to open yet, but it’s been a lively scene recently.
  • CastroOz Burger – Burgers, fries and shakes with a few outdoor tables. Probably the ugliest outdoor signage of any restaurant in SF.
  • CastroOz Pizza – Giant thin-crust slices w/ unusual flavors (figgy piggy and ostrich) plus chocolate covered bacon and beer. Four sidewalk tables
  • CastroProject Juice – Juices, paleo waffles, superfood smoothie bowls. Open for contactless delivery with two tables in front.
  • CastroQualitea – Bubble tea shop on 18th near Noe with two tables out front.
  • CastroSaucy Asian – Mashup of Korean, Mexican and California serving bowls, burritos and poke. Two tiny little tables out front

  • CastroTaco Ogasmica – Colorful mexian spot with outdoor dining on Market St., fresh tortillas, burittos, aguas frescas and margaritas.
  • CastroThe Castro Founatin – Soda fountain–inspired ice cream shop serving housemade scoops, cakes, cookies & pies.Open 2-7p Wednesday to Sunday with outdoor benches on the sidewalk.
  • CastroThe Cove – Castro Street cafe with a few sidewalk tables serving tons of breakfast & brunch items along with mimosas and bloodies

  • CastroWillkommen – Triangle-shaped fresh beer bar and German sausage joint opening outdoor tables on Monday, June 15th with tons of seating (for 60-10) on Market and Sanchez with planter boxes to help with the wind. Happy hour 5-6pm everyday get monster-sized stein liters for half-price.

Chinatown

  • ChinatownBoiling Shrimp Restaurant – Reasonably priced off the beaten path at 150 Waverly Place (near Washington) with authentic Northern Chinese comfort food and quick bites including Pot stickers, fried rice, wonton noodle soup, and fried seafood noodles.
