One of San Francisco’s most beloved burger spots is headed to Union Square, bringing a more affordable, casual dining option to the heart of downtown.

Super Duper Burgers has been selected to operate the café on the east side of Union Square. The new location is expected to open in early fall 2026 following city-led renovations, pending approval of a five-year lease with two optional five-year extensions.

Union Square has two restaurant spaces. Super Duper will join b. Patisserie, which opened a kiosk on the west side of the square in March 2025, as part of a broader effort to expand food options and bring more foot traffic back to downtown San Francisco.

Founded in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood, Super Duper is a homegrown favorite known for fast-casual burgers made with organic, non-GMO ingredients.. The Union Square café will serve a streamlined version of the brand’s menu including burgers, fries, garlic fries with aged cheddar, shakes, organic soft serve, breakfast sandwiches, veggie burgers, brown sugar lemonade, and ice cream made with Straus Creamery.

The café will be located along Stockton Street and include outdoor seating. Recent state grant funding will help modernize the space and add on-site cooking capabilities.

The selection followed strong public interest, with four pre-proposal site visits in summer 2025 and seven competing food and beverage proposals submitted.
