San Francisco is getting a giant rainbow laser light show this summer.

From June 21 through July 4, 2026 Civic Center Plaza will host “7X7,” a free public art installation featuring 49 beams of light projecting into the sky, one for each square mile of the city.

Visible across San Francisco and much of the Bay Area, the installation transforms the skyline each night from sunset to sunrise, creating a shifting light display that can be seen from neighborhoods across the city.

The “7×7” light show changes theme during its run:

  • Pride Weekend (June 27-28): Rainbow colors across the sky
  • July 4: Colors of the American flag for Independence Day

Timed to coincide with Pride, World Cup events in the region, and Fourth of July celebrations, the installation turns Civic Center into a central visual anchor for the city’s summer lineup.

Produced by Illuminate (the group behind The Bay Lights and the Market Street rainbow laser installation), “7X7” reimagines San Francisco’s grid as a sky-wide artwork.
