SF Gets New Waterfront Padel & Pickleball Courts
San Francisco’s first padel club is bringing more places to play along the waterfront.
Bay Padel, which opened less than two years ago, is expanding at both Pier 70 in Dogpatch and on Treasure Island.
At Pier 70’s historic Building 12 (already home to Bread Belly, Standard Deviant Brewery, artist studios, and more), they are adding four new padel courts plus six outdoor pickleball courts. The club says the courts are already busy, with peak hours hitting 85% capacity.
Over on Treasure Island, four more pickleball courts and two additional padel courts are going inside the historic Hangar 3 near the island entrance. Once complete, that location will have eight padel courts and eight pickleball courts total.
Padel, often described as a mix between tennis and squash, is played on a glass-enclosed court about a third smaller than tennis, using solid perforated paddles and slightly softer balls. The sport has been booming worldwide. In 2024 alone, more than 7,000 new courts opened globally, including 352 in the U.S.
The Pier 70 expansion is part of a bigger push to activate Building 12, which will also get a new arts and entertainment venue this winter. Elevation XR is bringing in three massive geodesic domes and a pyramid for concerts, movies, art, and wellness events.
Both new Bay Padel expansions are aiming for an October 2025 opening.
