SFO’s New Longest Flight: 17.5 Hours to India
SFO has a new longest flight. SFGate reported that United Airlines announced a brand new nonstop flight from San Francisco to Bangalore, India that’s 8,701 miles.
The flight time clocks in at 17.5 hours. It beats the current longest flight from San Francisco to Singapore by 250 miles. It’s the first ever nonstop flight from the United States to Bangalore, which is known as the Silicon Valley of India. The new SFO-BLR route will begin in spring 2021*, connecting one tech hub to another.
In surprising news, unrelated to Covid-19, the flights won’t be flying 100% full. Due to Bangalore’s unique location in the world, its higher altitude and higher temperatures means that take offs are difficult, so there will be payload restrictions coupled with engine enhancements on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to help make the flight possible.
*Please note, SFGate says the route will start in summer 2021, but the United Airlines press release says spring 2021. Read more from United Airlines.
