SF’s New Downtown IKEA Set to Open Spring 2023
Thanks to SF Gate for the update that San Francisco’s new downtown Ikea, located in a brand new urban mall, has announced its opening its doors in spring 2023.
It’s been more than two years since the vacant 6×6 Mall at 945 Market Street was purchased for $198 million. The building has sat unused since completed in 2016, according to the Real Deal.
Ingka Centres says “We are creating a unique concept that will be a mix of retail offer, office space, food & beverage, entertainment and digital experiences. Market Street is known for its shops, restaurants, hotels, and nearby offices. Ultimately by redeveloping this building, we will, together with IKEA, create a new meeting place for this exciting neighbourhood in San Francisco.”
The build-out of the 250,000-square-foot vacant space started in August 2022. The new shopping center, which will be branded as Livat, announced it would open in the fourth quarter of 2023, but it’s been recently announced that the new IKEA store would open up first in spring 2023.
The flagship feature of the mall will be the new 87,000 square feet IKEA, which is about 20% of the size of the company’s typical stores. It’s not yet been announced what other tenants will be occupying the space, but 47,000 square feet is zoned for office space. It’s been reported that Industrious, a co-working space will be moving into the 5th floor. Also, The Puttery, a mini golf chain, may also be moving in plus various pop-ups. Uniquely, the brand-new IKEA urban mall will not have any parking.
