Just announced, sadly, San Francisco’s annual 420 Festival in Golden Gate Park has been cancelled for 2024. Instead, Robin Williams Meadow will host its first ever field day with kickball and volleyball tournaments.

The City’s annual 420 festival will not be held in Golden Gate Park next month, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and event organizer Sounds Bazaar announced today, March 26, 2024.

The festival, a celebration of cannabis culture, has traditionally drawn large crowds to Golden Gate Park’s Robin Williams Meadow, including Hippie Hill. The cancellation of this year’s event is the result of two key factors: economic challenges within the cannabis industry, making sponsorships hard to secure, and City budget cuts impacting Rec and Park’s ability to cover staffing for the event.

To keep the park active for the community on this day, SF Recreation and Park Department has partnered with Volo Sports to run volleyball and kickball tournaments at Robin Williams Meadow on April 20.

420 organizers and park officials stressed there won’t be a stage or live music or cannabis booths in Golden Gate Park like in previous years, encouraging revelers to skip the trip and instead celebrate 420 in a place that’s special and local to them.

“We understand the disappointment and hope to make it up with a great event next year,” said 420 organizer Alex Aquino. “We encourage everyone to go support their local equity brands, dispensaries, and lounges on 420 as we all celebrate plant medicine. Additionally, we are inviting everyone to join us next month at Carnaval May 25-26 as one of SFs longest running free community cultural events. Wherever you go, be safe and be respectful of whatever spaces you occupy.”

SF’s 1st Weed Week

The first ever SF Weed Week arrives in San Francisco Sunday, April 13 and runs past April 20—bringing thousands of Bay Area smokers and tourists a lineup of seven nights of seven top-shelf growers premiering seven world-class strains at seven world-class San Francisco lounges. “420 is very much on in San Francisco—it’s a week-long and all across the City, with more to do than ever. SF Weed Week feels honored to help carry the cannabis torch forward in the legalization era. San Francisco has the finest cannabis flowers, growers, and experiences in the world—we look forward to helping to write the next chapter for this marvelous city,” said David Downs, creator of SF Weed Week and cannabis journalist.
