Thanks to the SFist for sharing that San Francisco’s iconic Transamerica Pyramid is hosting a grand opening celebration on September 12, 2024, to commemorate their $400 million remodel including a brand new outdoor sculpture garden.

Grand Opening – Sept. 12, 2024
The “grand opening” celebration includes an Opening Ceremony (9-11 am), a Conversation with Michael Shvo and Norman Foster (1-2 pm) and the “Pyramid of Light and Sound” show from (7-11 pm) with Thievery Corporation, Kronos Quartet, and singer Michael Marshall. Please note, these events are private (require an RSVP), but the light show should be visible to the public outside the building and you’ll likely be able to hear the music as well (but not see).

New Light Show – 8:30pm
You’ll see the light show take over the east-facing side of the building with precision laser graphics at 8:30 pm according to SFist

New Outdoor Redwood Park Sculpture Garden
You can already see one of the most noticeable changes to the building. The building has a brand new lobby, and the redwood grove at the base of the pyramid has been restored. Most notably, the revamp includes a captivating outdoor sculpture garden featuring over 20 pieces by renowned French artists Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. The exhibition, titled “Les Lalanne at Transamerica Redwood Park,” will transform the iconic Redwood Park into a whimsical wonderland, showcasing the artists’ famous animal figures and surreal human forms among the ferns and redwoods. This installation marks the first in a series of rotating outdoor art exhibitions at the Transamerica Pyramid Center, promising to bring world-class art to the heart of San Francisco for years to come.

Your first chance to explore the new sculpture garden will be at the official public reopening of the Transamerica Pyramid on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
