Thanks to KTVU for letting us know that Macy’s “Great Tree” lighting in San Francisco’s Union Square was lit up a week early than normal, on November 19, 2021.

KTVU reports that the lighting was held early in order “to promote sales in the slumping retail corridor.”

You can view the tree from November 19, 2021 – January 1, 2022.

According to unionsquareshop There was no entertainment like there had been in the past, but instead there was just a lighting ceremony. “For the protection of visitors, locals and shoppers this year – there won’t be a tree lighting event with entertainment. Macy’s wants to be responsible and avoid crowds to protect the public. Macy’s will, as usual, will gift to the City of San Francisco, their Great Tree.”
