Thanks to ABC7 for sharing the news that volunteers carried water for miles this weekend to help the rare Tule Elk on the Point Reyes National Seashore who have been suffering from drought conditions.
On Saturday, August 28, nearly a hundred people gathered to execute an emergency water drop to a pond that’s on the verge of drying up. The group carried 350 gallons of water 3 miles away which will last the herd about a week.
Sadly, a third of the herd has died in the past year from lack of water and sufficient foliage. The National Park Service is embattled in a lawsuit to provide adequate food and water for the herd, which is confined within the reserve with depleting natural resources due to the ongoing drought.
