New Year’s Sky Lantern Send-Off

A beautiful sunset gathering and sky lantern memorial send-off
By - posted 1/1/2015 No Comment

Have you lost a loved one, such as a parent, family member or close friend? On the first Saturday of the new year, join your friends and family for watching the sunset, followed by a memorial tribute, celebrating those we’ve lost in years past and honoring their souls with a glowing message to the sky.

Waterfront New Year’s Sky Candle Memorial
Saturday, January 3, 2015 | 7-9 pm
Near Crissy Field, SF (Check Facebook before heading out for the exact location)
FREE

What To Bring

  • Bring a bamboo/bio-degradable sky lantern. You can buy these in Chinatown near Grant and Clay
  • Bring paper and a pen to write a message to a lost loved one
  • Bring a sense of community and a willingness to let things go

We’ve been told the event will be held rain or shine, but please check Facebook for updates. Please note, if you have not already RSVP’d, the event page on Facebook may look “unavailable” as it’s sometimes restricted just to those that have already clicked “Going.”

Please note that we’re not certain of the legality of sky lanterns in California. Attend at your own risk or just enjoy watching the beautiful sendoff of the lanterns that will fill the sky.

Where is this event happening?
The event will take place near Crissy Field around the West Bluff Picnic Area. The exact location will be posted on Facebook around noon on the day of the event.

What to bring?
Bring your own bio-friendly sky lantern with you. Also bring your own markers or sharpies if you decide to write a letter to your loved ones. They’ll be providing some sky candles, but we recommend bringing your own.
