Free YBCA Admission Month for College Students | SoMa

The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts invites college students to visit its visual arts exhibitions for FREE during the month of April. Experience Chinese artist Song Dong’s installation Waste Not and peruse Euan Macdonald’s video installation.

You must show your student ID from any college to gain free entry. Normally, entry is $5 to $7.

Current Exhibits

Song Dong: Dad and Mom, Don’t Worry About Us, We Are All Well
Chinese artist Song Dong’s much-heralded, large-scale installation, comprised of over 10,000 items ranging from pots and basins to blankets, bottle caps, toothpaste tubes, and stuffed animals collected by the artist’s mother over the course of more than five decades, beginning with the Cultural Revolution. The exhibition also includes a selection of the artist’s videos, photographs and a newly commissioned work.

Euan Macdonald: 9,000 PIECES (opens April 9th)
9,000 PIECES, the show’s title video work, portrays the durability testing of a piano at a secret factory in Shanghai, China, at which instruments are made for sale with labels deceptively indicating high-end European manufacture. The exhibition also includes four other new works in graphite, stop-motion video, and silkscreen exploring different representations of the piano.

Gallery Hours: 12 to 8 pm on Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 6pm on Sundays. Closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
