San Francisco is a city of change, with a long history of social and urban transformation. Today, many San Franciscans dream of converting underused public spaces – alleys, parking spaces, and rooftops – into inviting and dynamic gathering places. Groundplay, a program of the San Francisco Planning Department, pairs inspired San Franciscans with institutions that have the resources and expertise to bring their dreams to life.
You’ve likely seen a Groundplay project already: perhaps you’ve stopped in a parklet – a street area converted to public space – or chatted with strangers at the Exploratorium’s Pause on Market Street installation.
The co-managers of Groundplay, Kay Cheng and Ilaria Salvadori, will lead a conversation about contemporary and historic approaches to rethinking urban spaces. Free but an RSVP is required.
