Event Details

Show up to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on Saturday, August 20 for a sizzling oasis of performances, films, music, workshops, food and drinks.

This self-curated art event has a range of activities, from a literary death match to heavy metal-inspired quilting, so purchase something from a food truck as you enjoy contemporary art for all at this free, all-day event full of films, food trucks and fine art.

Activities Include:

  • Literary Death Match: Featuring poet/slam superstar Chinaka Hodge, the man who copyrighted his own mind, Jonathon Keats (The Book of the Unknown), the captivating Caitlin Myer and cutting edge fictionista Susan Steinberg, this competition will be judged by a panel of three artists from the exhibition. Two writers will advance to the final round, where the show’s literary sensibility will be traded for a delirious battle of wit and agility to decide the winner.
  • High Tea II : Part II will examine the proliferation of medical marijuana dispensaries and investigate the explosion of edibles.
  • Heavy Metal Quilting : Have you struggled to reconcile your passion for metal with your knack for needlepoint? Let Ben Venom show you the way in this hands-on workshop.
  • Listening with David Harrington : Kronos Quartet’s founder and Artistic Director will take listeners on an auditory odyssey of his favorite music.
  • BANimation : Animation allows for total creativity in cinema. There are no rules – from law and order to laws of gravity, everything is up for grabs. The Bay Area is a leader in all forms of animation, from the cutting-edge digital design of Pixar to the collage works of artists such as Lawrence Jordan. Today, we will celebrate this most imaginative art form.
  • Grand Lobby Window Project Launch: Meet San Francisco-based artist Taraneh Hemami, who has created a powerful public artwork for YBCA’s Grand Lobby window. Born in Tehran, Hemami’s design celebrates the open spirit of San Francisco, while echoing the call for freedom that has risen across the globe.
