Event Details

On Monday, November 2 at 7:00pm, the San Mateo County Historical Association will present Casa Círculo Cultural, which will conduct a webinar on the history and traditions surrounding the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) as it is practiced in the United States. Casa Círculo Cultural is an organization whose mission is to provide creative, educational and recreational opportunities for Hispanic families in the Bay Area while promoting Hispanic art, culture and traditions

Día de los Muertos is a time when people from Mexico and other Latin American countries honor the memories of their deceased loved ones. The celebration is filled with special foods, decorations and visits to the cemetery to clean and decorate family graves. Home ofrendas (altars) are often created to honor the deceased. They are traditionally decorated with candles, photographs, flowers, foods and objects that were special to a loved one.

This webinar is being conducted as part of the Historical Association’s Courthouse Docket series, which is sponsored by the Cypress Lawn Heritage Foundation.
