The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco announce the reopening of the de Young and Legion of Honor museums, following their temporary closure under the shelter-in-place order mandated by the City of San Francisco.

de Young – Opening September 25

The de Young museum is scheduled to open to the public on Friday, September 25. The museum will open to members on September 22, 23, and 24. On view, the exhibition Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving will premiere to Bay Area audiences, and Uncanny Valley: Being Human in the Age of AI will reopen in an expanded version with Pierre Huyghe’s bronze sculpture Exomind. New Health and Safety Measures

Rigorous measures based on city guidelines will be taken to ensure a safe and healthy environment for visitors and staff. Visitor capacity has been reduced to 25 percent, in addition to an instituted timed ticket to ensure proper social distancing. Face coverings will be required for staff and adult visitors at all times in the buildings. More information.

We are pleased to offer free general admission for essential workers — including emergency services, health care, grocery stores, city operations and maintenance, social services, public transit, and delivery services — to receive a $15 discount on tickets to special exhibitions, through December 2021. Free Saturdays for Bay Area Residents

Every Saturday the de Young offers free general admission to all residents of the nine Bay Area counties. Saturdays feature engaging art experiences for the entire family, including art making, gallery guides, and tours with discussion and sketching in the permanent galleries. Timed advanced tickets required

  • This offer applies only to the permanent collection galleries. (Special exhibitions require additional fee)
  • Reserve your time tickets in advance online. Please be prepared to verify with ID onsite.
  • Free admission may be redeemed onsite with a driver’s license or postmarked envelope.
  • Visitors ages 17 and under always receive free admission to the permanent collection galleries.
  • Qualifying counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma
