Cupid’s Span | The Embarcadero & Folsom St, San Francisco, CA
San Francisco’s most outrageous mobile street party, Decentralized Dance Party, is back this Valentine’s Day.
What is a Decentralized Dance Party (DDP)?
Hundreds of party people carry boomboxes and the DJ (Admiral Fiesta) wears a backpack, containing an FM radio transmitter. All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJ’s master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system.
The theme for this Party is SFDDP Fixes Everything, and they’re going to dress the part. Put on your hard hats, your high-visibility vests, your mechanics’ jumpsuits, your painters pants and your toolbelts. There’s a lot wrong with the world, and it’s up to us to make it right again. Let’s get to work.
In the past, people have built sound systems in shopping carts and baby carriages, constructed insane backpack-borne laser light shows, crowd-surfed each other up escalators, constructed hilarious costumes, and performed epic dance routines for everyone to enjoy. Take the theme as inspiration and make it your own in the most heartfelt and spectacular way possible.
Bring a boombox if you have one, and head down to to Cupid’s Span. Everyone of all ages is welcome.
Tune into the party frequency and dance through the streets, exploring public spaces and reveling with strangers in ways you never thought possible. They don’t want to promise a you’ll have a “life-changing amount of fun,” but it happens a lot.Denis Ivanov
