Event Details

Everyone loves a good time travel story, but given what people know and don’t know about physics, is time travel in any way plausible? Using popular movies as a framework, Professor Wharton will outline several distinct categories of consistent time travel stories, and discuss possible connections with actual physics.

Dr. Ken Wharton is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at San Jose State University. His physics research concerns time symmetry in quantum mechanics, and he’s always been fascinated by proposed scenarios in which the future can affect the past. Versions of his award-winning essays on the topic have appeared in New Scientist, Nautilus, and other popular-science venues.
