Event Details

Dog Eared Books, a literary fixture on Valencia Street since 1992, has opened a new store on Castro Street with a mixture of new, used, and remaindered titles, along with magazines, stationery, maps, and whatever else strikes our madcap fancy.

To celebrate this momentous event, they’re throwing a big party where members of the public can mix ‘n’ mingle with the staff, drink swanky cocktails, eat fancy hors d’oeuvres, and listen to brief readings by a few of their favorite local authors, including Tales of the City’s Armistead Maupin.

Brief Readings by the Following Authors:

  • Armistead Maupin is the author of eleven novels. His Tales of The City has been translated into ten languages, sold over six million copies, been made into a TV miniseries, and been a beloved best-seller at Dog Eared for decades.
  • Rebecca Solnit is an activist and the author of Men Explain Things to Me, Infinite City, and a couple of dozen other books. She’s also a contributing editor at Harper’s Magazine where she writes the bi-monthly “Easy Chair” essay.
  • Peter Orner is the author of two novels, two collections of short stories, and all sorts of articles for magazines and newspapers too numerous to mention. He teaches at San Francisco State University and frequently shops at Dog Eared Books.
  • Brontez Purnell is a choreographer, performance artist, filmmaker, musician, as well as a writer. His latest book, Johnny Would You Love Me If…, comes with a parental advisory label for explicit content.
