Enjoy coffee and snacks while learning about rain gardens, why they are important, and how to support them by becoming a rain guardian. During this Earth Day event we will clean up some of the rain gardens on Cesar Chavez Street between Folsom Street & Harrison St. Our green infrastructure gardeners will be explaining how the rain gardens work and answering any questions. If you are new to the Rain Guardians program, you will be able to get more information on the program and can even adopt a rain garden at the event!
We will provide all tools needed for the rain garden clean up. We will also have tablets at the event so attendees who are interested can explore the Rainguardians.org website and adopt a rain garden of their own. Those that are new adopters will take home a set of Rain Guardian tools. If you are already a rain guardian, please join us to help with earth day clean-up efforts and connect with others in your community!
Rain gardens are sustainable stormwater management facilities that collect rainwater from city streets and use the power of plants and soils to clean it and soak it into the ground beneath. Rain Guardians help SFPUC steward these facilities by working together to keep them free of trash and debris. You can learn more about the Rain Guardians Program at Rainguardians.org.
We look forward to seeing you at the Earth Day event!
