Joaquin Miller Park | Joaquin Miller Road and Sanborn Drive, Oakland, CA

Free / Learn More

On Saturday June 16th (World Juggling Day), join us at beautiful Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland for a free day of juggling, unicycling, acroyoga, hooping and more.

Come visit the meadow any time between 10:00 AM and sunset. We’ll have informal activities, workshops and lessons of all kinds. All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us to play in the park. Bring whatever props and skills you have, and learn from some of the most talented people around.

Beginning MUni (Tom Holub)
10:00 AM-10:30 AM
If you can mount and ride a unicycle, you can ride MUni. This workshop will cover basic equipment and techniques. Bring your own unicycle, knobby tire not required.

Learn to juggle (Sarah Kayler)
10:30 AM-11:00 AM

Intro to AcroYoga (Ron Avitzur)
11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Build strength, flexibility, and balance with a shared practice of partner yoga and partner acrobatics. We’ll focus on precision alignment while finding ease and stillness in the poses. Learn the basics of bone stacking and counterbalance to support your partner. The class includes elements of yoga, conditioning, acrobatics, and therapeutics. All levels welcome. No need to bring partner.

Family MUni ride (Tom Holub)
11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Meet in the meadow for an easy MUni ride designed for new riders or families. Hiking pace overall. Bring your own unicycle, knobby tires not required.

Cyr Wheel (Corbin Dunn)
12:00 PM-1:00 PM
Cyr Wheel is one of the most athletic and beautiful circus arts. Corbin Dunn will demonstrate some basic and advanced skills. Extra wheels will be available for people to try.

Two Flip Pattern Functions: FLS and 2SBF (Carl Hunt)
12:00 PM-1:00 PM
This intermediate/advanced workshop will appeal most to people interested in analyzing and developing club juggling passing patterns but will have hands-on practice incorporating flips into patterns (a single height self pass to the same hand with a club). We will discuss pattern functions generally (a regular transformation of an existing pattern) and then the flip pattern functions FLS (flip last self) and 2SBF (2 selfs become a flip) and the application of each of these both to a simple pattern and a more complex one (FLS: 4-count and Civil War, 2SBF: Chocolate Bar and Take Five). I expect most of the time we will be practicing 4-count FLS.

Intro to Slackline (Dylan Fairbanks)
1:00 PM-1:30 PM
Fun MUni ride (Tom Holub)
2:00 PM-4:00 PM
Meet in the meadow for a fun MUni ride, designed for more advanced riders. Bring your own unicycle, knobby tire recommended. We may have one or two loaners available.

Make your own juggling balls
2:00 PM-4:00 PM
Making juggling balls is easy! We’ll have free materials like balloons and flour that anyone can use to make fun, colorful balls that are great for practicing.

Disc golf for beginners
4:00 PM-5:00 PM
Disc golf is a fun and very technical sport, and jugglers tend to be good at it. We’ll have a couple portable baskets and some discs. We’ll talk about the equipment, and practice forehand and backhand techniques for drives, mid range shots and putts.
