The topic of the day is Blood, Guts, and Glory: Insight into a Vertebrate Natural History Museum at The East Bay Science Café, a forum for discussing interesting and relevant scientific issues.
What’s the use of a bunch of dead things in cabinets? Are museums just dusty old things of the past? Hardly.
UC Berkeley’s Museum of Vertebrate Zoology is one of the most active vertebrate research museums in the United States. Not only does it have a vibrant research community, it also has a bustling and award winning undergraduate program. Learn more about this amazing institution in a “day in the life of a museum scientist” talk—but beware, this is not a Science Cafe event for the faint of heart.
About the Speaker: Monica Albe
As the Senior Museum Scientist at the UC Berkeley Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, she manages the Preparation Lab, runs some courses on specimen preparation, and helps coordinate the undergraduate program and museum outreach activities. She received a Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award in 2009.
