Bay Area Queer Zine Symposium (March 19-20)

The organizers of the Bay Area Queer Zine Fest are proud to announce their participation in the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco’s “Meantime” program and present the Bay Area Queer Zine Symposium. This weekend-long event will be a primer to the offerings the Bay Area Queer Zine Fest has provided its local community since its inception in 2017 with a schedule of workshops and panels plus a curated group of exhibitors during the event. The Bay Area Queer Zine Symposium will be held at the ICA SF’s pre-launch location Saturday March 19th and Sunday March 20th 2022 from 12pm to 6pm.

By showcasing the intersection of LGBTQIA+ stories and independent publishing in the Bay Area, BAQZF aims to preserve the histories of these creative communities by providing inclusive event programming and forums with an emphasis on amplifying the voices of queer, trans, black, indigenous, people of color (QTPOC), femmes, disabled folks, and other marginalized groups. For the Bay Area Queer Zine Symposium, workshops will provide hour-long hands-on guided activity for zinesters of all ages and panels will host open discourse on varying creator identities and techniques utilized in zine creation. More information including a schedule of events and confirmed exhibitors are to be announced.

The Bay Area Queer Zine Symposium will be free and open to the public beginning Saturday March 19th from 12pm to 6pm and Sunday March 20th from 12pm to 6pm. Masks and social distancing will be enforced throughout the event as well as proof of vaccination status upon arrival.

The Institute of Contemporary Art is located at 901 Minnesota St in San Francisco and is wheelchair accessible. For more information on the ICA SF’s “Meantime” program, visit www.icasanfrancisco.org.
