“Due South” SF’s Free Fall Music Festival at McLaren Park (2022)

Near the southern border of the city, this often-overlooked park (the city’s second-largest) boasts 313 acres of rolling meadows and native plants, 7+ miles of trails, and one Greek-style outdoor concert venue nestled amongst the trees.

After a $1.5 million dollar facelift, the 2,500 capacity amphitheater reopened a year ago and hosts the free “Due South” music festival in the park for the first time since 2019.

Trying to keep things as local as possible, this Saturday it’s shoegazing-metal band Deafheaven that formed in San Francisco. In September veteran indie-folk star Thao (who has lived in SF since 2009) headlines, with the final October concert breaking things up a little inviting Grammy-winning Latin hip hop and rock gods Ozomatli up from LA.

Attendees can expect to enjoy live music, local eats, and neighborhood fun from 2-6PM at each event (or is it 3-7PM? the website lists both times), as well as free bike valet services from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.
