The new Friday market has been temporarily closed due to California’s extreme drought.

Heart of the City Farmers Market is a uniquely independent, farmer-operated, non-profit farmers market with a mission to bring healthy food and nutrition education outreach to a fresh food desert that lacks a grocery store. To keep stall fees low so prices stay affordable for the city’s low-income community, their small team operates on a shoestring budget and they are fondly known as “The People’s Market” for their diversity and grassroots, family-like cooperative structure. Since the market’s first day 1981, their farmers have been committed to helping to create a healthy Heart of the City.

The market is located along Market Street between 7th and 8th Streets above Civic Center BART Station. The Market Information Tent is near the intersection of Hyde and Fulton.

They will only be closed on the following holidays:

  • Pride Parade Sunday, the last Sunday in June
  • Christmas Closure: If a market day falls on December 24, 25, or 26
  • New Years Closure: If a market day falls on December 31, January 1 or 2
