Mavericks Surf Contest 2016-17 | Half Moon Bay
Just 20 minutes south of San Francisco, and 1/2 mile offshore from Pillar Point Harbor, Titans of Mavericks rises from the wintery horizon to form perfect, massive waves that reach up to 60 feet, exploding with ground shaking effect that can be recorded on the Richter scale .
The Mavericks window lasts from November 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017.
The 22 best and most daring big-wave surfers in the world will attempt to tame the massive swells on the biggest and best day of the winter season. Once the season opens on November 1, the watching and waiting begins. The “call” is a perfect blend of art, science and experience: tracking the waves, the wind, the tides, the swell direction and duration, understanding the ideal weather conditions and taking that chance.

Viewing Options: How do I watch the contest?
Due to safety concerns resulting from extreme high surf and cliff erosion, there is no access to the beach and bluffs at Pillar Point to watch the contest from land. Local law enforcement will restrict access to the roads entering Pillar Point, and beachgoers there will be turned back.
Many restaurants and bars in the area – and throughout the Bay Area – will host viewing parties with the live webcast so you can catch all the action with other fans.
