Pop Art Exhibit: Warhol, Lichtenstein & Oldenburg | Stanford

Come to the free Cantor Arts Center to check out renowned works of art at an exhibition of 10 spectacular Pop Art works originally part of a donation to SFMOMA.

Works include:

  • a silkscreen self-portrait by Andy Warhol
  • a “mirror” series sculpture and two other major works by Roy Lichtenstein
  • “Funeral Heart” by Claes Oldenburg
  • Robert Indiana’s iconic Love painting
  • important paintings by Jim Dine, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and James Rosenquist

The works will be on display August 13, 2014 through October 26, 2015. Exhibit is open Wednesday-Sunday, from 11 am to 5 pm, and Thursdays until 8 pm; admission is free. They’re closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Background: For the past 50 years, Bay Area art collectors Harry and Mary Margaret Anderson have passionately assembled one of the most outstanding private collections of 20th-century art in the world. They have also demonstrated extraordinary generosity; in 1992, they donated a group of 30 works by Claes Oldenburg, Andy Warhol, and other Pop Art pioneers to SFMOMA, and they gave 121 works to Stanford, all of which go on display this fall in The Anderson Collection, a new building adjacent to the Cantor.
