Join the fun for all ages at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco’s annual Obon Festival and Bazaar.

Celebrate BCSFs 83rd Ginza Bazaar and the 95th Bon Odori! Throughout the weekend, enjoy Japanese food such as aloha chicken, beef curry, sushi, Chinese chicken salad, and daruma dogs, along with beer, sake, wine, and soft drinks.

On Saturday, find additional activities such as bingo, kids’ games, and temple open house.

On Sunday, break out your summer kimonos (yukata) and join the Bon Odori on Octavia Street. Dance in a circle to the synchronized rhythm of taiko drums and folk songs. All are welcome to join; no experience is needed.

Obon is the 500-year-old annual Japanese tradition honoring the spirits of one’s ancestors. The Buddhist Church of San Francisco is the oldest official Japanese Buddhist temple in the continental United States. It was founded by Jodo Shinshu (Pure Land) missionaries in 1898.
