Watch a Live Rooftop Honey Harvest (Castro Valley)

Our East Bay Natural Grocers bees have been busy and soon you’ll get a chance to bring some hyper-local liquid gold home with you.

On Wednesday, August 25th, our beekeeper Mike of The Bee Ranchers will be extracting our hyper-local honey live in the Castro Valley Marketplace.

UPDATE – Although we don’t see anything listed on their website, we’re told by the promoters that this event is also taking place Thursday, August 26th

We’re big on bees in our company, we keep 4 hives on the rooftops of the Alameda and Castro Valley Marketplaces in addition to sponsoring several more throughout our communities. The honey is nice and all, but the real reason we keep bees is that they keep us fed and they need our protection.

Bees have propped up ecosystems for tens of millions of years, and are responsible for pollinating about 90% of the world’s nutrition. That’s kind of a big deal.

Maybe you’ve seen one of our honeybees bounding about town, so now would be a great time for you and your families to get a direct connection to their work.

Come see for yourself the final steps of the process of fresh honey being made as its extracted, spun, and bottled right on site. Between our two sites, we should have about 400 pounds of fresh local honey.

Mike’s got an encyclopedic knowledge of everything honey bee. It’s a great chance to learn all about beekeeping, bees, honey, and any other bee-related questions you’ve got.

*Bee* you then.
