Saint Joseph’s Arts Society presents FABRICATIONS
Art From The Space Program San Francisco
As industries rise and fall, as technology reshapes our lives, and as the environment faces mounting challenges, our sense of place and identity is constantly shifting. FABRICATIONS brings together Bay Area-based artists from The Space Program San Francisco residency who work with industrial materials in unexpected ways—reshaping, repurposing, and reimagining them to create meaning.
Through sculpture, textiles, installation, and mixed media, these artists push the limits of traditional craft and offer new ways to think about our relationship with the built environment. Their work explores the personal and cultural histories embedded in materials, revealing how the things we build and discard shape who we are.
Presented at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society, this exhibition also highlights the environmental impact of industrial production, encouraging us to reflect on how we use and reuse materials in a rapidly changing world. By giving new life to these materials, the artists in FABRICATIONS ask us to see the world differently—to question what we take for granted and to recognize the power of art to reshape our understanding of place, identity, and the future.

ABOUT THE SPACE PROGRAM SAN FRANCISCO
The Space Program San Francisco is a private artists’ residency, providing primarily Bay Area artists across a range of disciplines with the space, tools, and time to create.
Located in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, the Space Program facility includes 4,000 square feet of shared studio space where residents have access to a recording studio, industrial sewing machines, ceramics tools and a kiln, screen printing facilities, a wood shop, and a metal shop on site along with off-site metal fabrication services.
To date, the Space Program has supported approximately 50 residents in the creation of original works across a range of disciplines including painting, sculpture, textiles, sound and print as well as a biannual mural-in-residence program leveraging the south side of the facility’s exterior.
In addition to supporting residents, the Space Program also operates the Art for Justice program which offers free silkscreen printing services for progressive causes, including reproductive rights, anti-racist/racial justice activities, voting initiatives, and climate action.
