Free Seasonal Cooking Demo & Tasting | Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

This waterfront market, run by the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), has over 100 food, fruit, and vegetable vendors on Saturdays and the entire Bay as its beautiful backdrop.

The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market operates year-round from 8 am to 2 pm.

On most Saturdays, free cooking demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.

Don’t toss those beet greens. This week’s cooking demos will feature creative ways to stretch your food dollar, avoid food waste, and get the most out of the whole vegetable or animal.

11:00 am: Robin Song, Hog & Rocks

Robin Song is the executive chef at Hog & Rocks, a gastropub that boasts itself as being San Francisco’s only ham and oyster bar. Since joining Hog & Rocks, Chef Song has created an inventive menu influenced by Northern Californian cuisine that pairs well with an extensive list of seasonally-rotating cocktails. Previously, Chef Song worked at various Bay area restaurants including Ame, Haven, and Plum.

Tara Duggan is a James Beard award-winning journalist and cookbook author. A staff food writer at The San Francisco Chronicle, Tara has published work in Food & Wine, the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Denver Post.

Trained as a chef at San Francisco’s California Culinary Academy, Tara has written several cookbooks, including Root to Stalk Cooking: the Art of Using the Whole Vegetable (Ten Speed, 2013).
