The highly acclaimed documentary, Cruz Reynoso: Sowing the Seeds of Justice, tells the story of Reynoso. Born into a family of Spanish-speaking farm workers, he went on to graduate from the University of California Berkeley Law School. As the first Latino director of California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA), Reynoso’s advocacy improved the lives of countless immigrants and farm workers. Appointed by Governor Jerry Brown as the first Latino justice on the California Supreme Court, Reynoso then lost his seat (along with two other justices) in a heated recall battle.
Come hear about Reynoso’s many accomplishments and how he navigated through the politics of the time. Reynoso was awarded our country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his lifelong devotion to public service.
6:30 p.m. Reception, 7-8:00 pm screening, 8:00 discussion
