Event Details

In honor of Mike Brown and Eric Garner, and in peaceful protest of how law enforcement and the legal and political systems have failed us, stand with your community and let your voices be heard and your presence be known.

Dress in black and meet around the Christmas tree in Union Square at 12:15 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2014. At 12:30 pm, one of the leaders of the event (James) will hold his hands up and yell, “I can’t breathe!” Eric Garner said this 11 times before he was choked to death, so in his honor, you too will say it 11 times. Hold up your hands in surrender and say, “I can’t breathe” 11 times, increasing in volume and intensity, after you hear James yell, then disperse.

Show your solidarity with those around the country fighting for their rights. With this simple act, you are letting the world know that enough is enough and change must happen. Emotions are running high, but please keep this protest as respectful as possible.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
