SF’s Yerba Buena Gardens Festival 2023 (May 6 – Oct. 28)

The 2023 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival hosts a full lineup of free outdoor music, theater, circus, dance, poetry, and children’s programs. The Festival opens on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00pm with John Santos Sextet + The Afro-Peruvian Coalition.

Now in its 23rd year, the Festival will run each and every week and weekend until October 28 and is located between Mission and Howard Streets and Third and Fourth Streets in downtown San Francisco.

You know a band is crazy dedicated when they bring their own piano to the gig. John Brothers Piano Company has honed a rambunctious, irresistible jazz-meets-stride-and-swing sound redolent of Barbary Coast revelry and Prohibition era hijinks. Starting with their first sidewalk street show–hauling their Wurlitzer spinet to the nearest subway station–the Piano Company has wowed audiences from Monterey Jazz Festival and the Warfield Theatre to the world-famous Edwardian Ball. The skillful compositions and playful dynamics of John Thatcher Boomer (piano, clarinet), Arlo Perlstein (piano, trumpet), Jimi Marks (drums, piano) and Dustin Smurthwaite (bass, trombone) reveal new musical possibilities with unrelenting energy, melodic elegance, and teasing good humor.
